Arecont Vision cameras use Motion JPEG and H.264 depending on the model. For more detailed information on supported camera modes, please check camera specifications for individual models.

H.264 compression is an algorithm which allows for reduced bandwidth while still retaining excellent image quality. Compared to Motion JPEG, bandwidth reductions may be anywhere on the order of 5 to 10 times smaller. H.264 operates optimally when dealing with well lit, low motion scenery. Heavy motion may result in an increase in bandwidth but typically this will still be far smaller than a Motion JPEG stream of the same area.
